Studying in Canada might not be expensive compared to your other go-to destinations to study abroad. However, it doesn’t come cheaply. For those looking for scholarships for masters in Canada, there are numerous scholarship opportunities available to fund your education.

In this article, we have included several scholarship programs offered by the Canadian government, and various Canadian institutions, for master’s students.

Eligibility Criteria for Masters in Canada

Scholarship requirements to study in Canada varies based on the course of study and institution. However, the general application requirements remain the same.

Academic Requirements

Most universities in Canada require applicants to have at least 16 years of education including a four-year bachelor’s degree.

However, there are exceptions to this. Some master’s degree programs like the ones offered at Carleton University and the University of Manitoba might accept a three-year bachelor’s degree from applicants from India, Australia, and the UK.

Another academic requirement is a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 (or its international equivalent; like a UK upper second class bachelor’s) for your undergraduate degree.

Language Requirements

This applies to applicants who don’t have English as their first language. Applicants that fit into this category are required to submit proof of English Language proficiency (ELP)  – TOEFL and ILETS test results.

The minimum ELP score required for a particular scholarship depends on your program of choice. Typical scores include 90+ for TOEFL and 6.5 – 7.0 for ILETS.

If you’re planning on applying for a master’s program taught in French, you will be required to clear the Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) or Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF).

Some master’s degree programs like business, management, and finance require 1-3 years of professional experience in the respective fields.
